Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826--the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

We are experiencing flood stage here in the Big Bend/Rio Grande area.  If you encounter a flooded stretch of roadway, do not attempt to cross it. You and your vehicle could be swept downstream in rushing floodwaters. Turn around, don’t drown! River levels are high. Ranchers and farmers should move livestock and machinery out of flood-prone areas if time permits.  Keep in mind that any additional rainfall across the area could significantly change the present forecast stage.     See more HERE.

FEMALE 'TELECASTER HERO' LILY MAASE AND ALL-STAR BAND TO PERFORM AT THE BAD RABBIT CAFE AND RAILROAD BLUES
Champion Tele slinger/mandolinist Lily Maase--formerly lead guitarist with JP & the Gilberts--is pleased to announce her inaugural national tour as leader of the High Life Band, beginning with a run through the Big Bend area and extending as far east as Charleston, SC.
Lily Maase & the High Life Band began their tale as JP & the Gilberts, but changed their name after JP and the rest of the Gilberts clambered out of their trusty van and back into the real world.
The transformation began in a barn outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in which guitarist Lily Maase and drummer Adam Loudermilk (distant cousin of the Louvin Brothers, no less) attended a birthday party where many guns were fired, much whiskey was consumed, and at the end of which Ms. Maase found herself carrying Mr. Loudermilk home on her very own back, lest he remain in the barn for the foreseeable future rather than home in Austin, Texas, where he belongs.
(It might be worth mentioning at this point that the barn party was, in fact, held in honor of Ms. Maase’s birthday.)
What followed was an epic journey across the United States, in which the band won many fans but managed to be paid at first only in cases of Miller High Life, which made them both very happy and very poor. Nevertheless, the band became known among its followers as the “Champagne of Country Music,” and continues to traverse the country to this very day.
Lily Maase & the High Life Band will perform at the Bad Rabbit Cafe in Terlingua on Thursday, August 8 and at Railroad Blues on Friday, August 9.
