Boquillas del Carmen will celebrate one year since the new Port of Entry opened on Saturday, April 19, 2014. The fiesta will be in the public plaza below Lilia Falcon's restaurant. There will be a gathering on the US side beginning at 11 am, and the Boquillas side of things will feature live music beginning early afternoon. Boquillas families are all invited to display and sell their handicrafts as well as food at individual posts around the plaza. In the evening, there may be a band but if not, there will sure be a DJ and dancing. There are several local places to stay the night for anyone who wants to take in the entire event.
The dates have been set for Last Minute Low Budget's next production, "You Caught Me Dancing," by Bernard Sabath. This one-woman show stars Deena Nolan as Katy Leary, who for 30 years was servant and companion to Sam "Mark Twain" Clemens and his family. After his death in 1910. Katy is closing the family home. Now that Clemens, his wife and two of their daughters are gone, Katy must make a new life. Chatting and reminiscing with an unseen friend, Katy ponders the choices as she packs her belongings and prepares to leave.
The play will run Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. the weekends of May 2-4 and 9-11. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 16. (The play is family-friendly for most families - Mark Twain is quoted a few times saying h*ll and d*mn.)
In order to make this play accessible to everyone in the community, the Saturday night May 3 show will be "pay what you can." There will be no admission, just a donation jar after the show. And kids get in free to the Sunday afternoon show May 11.
We have been making steady progress on the Cinnabar Theater, but there's still a lot of work to do before we can put on this show. We will be working on Saturdays and Sundays starting about 10 am from now until then - any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated...

IMPORTANT: April 16th, at 4:30 p.m., The Terlingua Common School District's Board will meet, and we are all invited to attend. Not that we haven't been welcome in the past, but meeting dates and times have rarely been made widely known; they were often scheduled when we all have to be at our jobs (including teachers).
TCSD belongs to US. Full disclosure of the operations of TCSD is the business of every resident of Brewster County. We should be able to expect that the Board is answerable to US. It seems unconscionable that Board Members are appointed for a 'forever' term. If closed doors is Standard Operating Procedure for schools such as the TCSD - that needs to change. If non-disclosure is the nature of how a Common School District operates, then that needs to be changed, as well. Start now organizing your list of questions, concerns, statements, etc. Most importantly, PLEASE BE THERE.
