Volunteers from the Mule Deer Foundation, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Sul Ross University, the Texas Bighorn Society and the Dallas Safari Club worked together to build a 4,600-gallon wildlife water guzzler in the Big Bend region of Texas in March
Situated on the El Carmen Land & Conservation Company’s Adams Ranch in southern Brewster County, the water collection structure will allow rainwater and supplemental water to be available for local wildlife year around.
“This monumental guzzler will capture over 1,000 gallons of water for every inch of rainfall — an essential resource for productive wildlife populations in this extremely arid region,” said David Wetzel, MDF project coordinator.
The guzzler will help support broad-based conservation efforts underway on the Ranch that focus on species ranging from mule deer and bighorn sheep to elf owls and Rio Grande silvery minnows. The project also feeds into larger, cross border conservation efforts within the El Carmen Project. Benefits from this guzzler and related conservation efforts can be expected to extend onto adjacent ranches as well as the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area and Big Bend National Park.

A huge thank you to Craig Carter and the Spur of the Moment Band.  Plenty of smiles on the dance floor, well into the night.
Thank you George, Dave Long and Linda Walker & crew for making the Boathouse the perfect place for a dance under the desert night sky.
Without our sponsors, this event could never have happened so smoothly.
THANK YOU Big Bend Telephone, Lajitas Golf Resort and Spa, Big Bend Resort and Adventures, Bill Ivey family and businesses, Starlight Theater, Cottonwood General Store, Las Casitas, Morrison's True Value Hardware, and Robert & Abbe (Waldman) Delozier and family of friends.

Gala Opening Night is this Friday for LMLB's latest production, and the first in the new Cinnabar theater, You Caught Me Dancing, starring Deena Nolan. Dress up a little, if you like, and enjoy champagne punch and refreshments starting at 7 pm (show begins at 8) while visiting with friends and neighbors - then enjoy the show!
The Saturday night show will be "pay what you can."  We want everybody who would like to see the show to be able to do so. Sunday's show will be a matinee at 2 pm.
The Cinnabar theater is west of 118, just south of Bee Mountain - look for the sign. (It's a rough road - take it slow.)

Baseball will continue on Tuesdays as long as there is interest from 3:45 -5:00 p.m. Chris Leland has agreed to take over while Bonnie is gone. Interest has been high. All ages are encouraged to participate. We thank everyone who has helped: Big Bend Motor Inn for donations, Dennis Maupin, Tim Callahan, Bob Hill and Z for construction and repairs, Jackie Holt, and Chris Leland for help on the field, and Judy Broughton for help with the snack bar. We could not have done without all of you. Please continue to come to play or just to watch. We need you all.

Mexico City, Apr 22 (EFE).- Mexican authorities said here Tuesday they would hold auctions in the near future for five new natural gas pipelines, which are to be built at a cost of $2.25 billion.
The CEO of Comision Federal de Electricidad, or CFE, Enrique Ochoa, said in a statement that the state-owned electric utility and the Energy Secretariat would provide details on the bidding processes in the coming days.
Ochoa said at an energy and gas forum at the CFE's Technological Museum that the first gas pipeline would cost around $400 million and run from Ojinaga to El Encino in the northern state of Chihuahua.
The second conduit will stretch from El Encino to the Laguna zone in the state of Durango, while the third will transport gas from Waha, Texas, to Samalayuca, Chihuahua.
The fourth gas pipeline will run from Waha to Ojinaga and the fifth will stretch from Ehrenberg, Arizona, to San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico.
Mexico is looking to build more pipelines to boost the "reliability of the country's natural gas transport system," Ochoa said.
Deputy Electricity Secretary Cesar Hernandez said the CFE has experience working with the private sector on natural gas transport infrastructure projects, which he added would give Mexicans access to that fuel "at competitive prices."Under the energy sector overhaul it adopted last December, Mexico aims to boost natural gas output from a current level of 5.7 billion cubic feet per day to 8 billion cfd by 2018 and to more than 10.4 billion cfd by 2025.
That higher production would enable the Aztec nation to be an exporter as opposed to an importer of natural gas.

LET’S PUT ON A SHOW! Last Minute Low Budget Productions announces its first production in the new Cinnabar Theater. Beginning on May 2, Deena Nolan of Terlingua will star in the one-woman show You Caught Me Dancing, by Bernard Sabath.  Says director Scott Watkins, “Nolan is a terrific comic and dramatic talent, and if anyone can carry off this tour de force role, she can.” Nolan portrays Katy Leary, who for 30 years was servant and companion to Samuel "Mark Twain" Clemens and his family. After his death in 1910 Katy is closing the family home as she chats and reminisces with an unseen friend. LMLB performed its first play in 1989, “Ballad of the Sad Café,” in the then-roofless Starlight Theater. From then until 2012, 34 plays were acted wherever space was available. So come to the Gala Opening, not only for the play, but also for the playhouse, on Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. The play will run on May 3, and May 9-10 at 8 p.m. with matinees scheduled for Sundays, May 4 and 11 at 2 p.m.

IMPORTANT: April 16th, at 4:30 p.m., The Terlingua Common School District's Board will meet, and we are all invited to attend. Not that we haven't been welcome in the past, but meeting dates and times have rarely been made widely known; they were often scheduled when we all have to be at our jobs (including teachers).
TCSD belongs to US.  Full disclosure of the operations of TCSD is the business of every resident of Brewster County. We should be able to expect that the Board is answerable to US. It seems unconscionable that Board Members are appointed for a 'forever' term.  If closed doors is Standard Operating Procedure for schools such as the TCSD - that needs to change.  If non-disclosure is the nature of how a Common School District operates, then that needs to be changed, as well. Start now organizing your list of questions, concerns, statements, etc. Most importantly, PLEASE BE THERE.
The April Second Saturday Flea Market is this Saturday in the parking lot on Hwy 118 at the corner of school road and H2O to GO/El Centro from 8am to ?  Weather permitting  - maybe the wind won't blow!

On Thursday April 10th,  the recycling trailer will go to the National Park's recycling center.  We will meet at the recycling trailer parked at "H2O to Go" at 9:30 a.m., to arrive at the Park's recycling center by 10:30 a.m.  All help will be greatly appreciated.....it's fun....really!

Help is available
We all have feelings at times in our life that can be overwhelming.  Professional services are far away and can also be expensive. There is an internationally known self-help program that has on-line chat meetings and also telephone meetings.  For more information click here:  www.lowselfhelpsystems.org or call 866-221-0302.  Some of their books can now be found in our local library in English and Spanish.

Texans soon may have access to Chinati Mountains State Natural Area, a 60-square-mile chunk of Trans-Pecos wilderness that has been in the parks system since 1996 but never opened to the public, according to the Houston Chronicle.
